The system and structure of the macrozoobenthos (benthic invertebrate) was investigated along the flow of the Sutla River at four gauging stations in two measurements in 2007. The total of collected units was 1,683. At all gauging stations, the communities were dominated by Amphipoda and Ephemeroptera, whereas all other groups were represented in relatively small numbers. The water quality, determined by means of the Pantle - Buck Saprobity Index (P-B Index), showed water class II at all gauging stations in both measurements. According to the Extended Biotic Index (EBI), the water quality ranged from classes I. - III. According to the Shannon and Simpson' Diversity Indices, the Sutla River is characterized by a relatively high macrozoobenthos diversity. The analysis of the communities’ structure was also carried out at all gauging stations by means of the cluster analysis, and connected two stations in the upper stretches of the flow with two in the lower flow in both measurements.
